Can I Get A Grant For Central Heating ?
The Uk government recognise that many pensioners are worrying about how they are going to afford to heat their home this winter since the recent gas and electric price rises last month.
There is a new Government-backed scheme to provide a Free Central Heating System to all pensioners that meet the criteria.
It is only targeted at pensioners who have never had gas central heating in their home, and are using electric heaters or solid fuel to heat their home.
What Current Heating Types Are Accepted For The Grant
Apply If Your Home Is Currently Heated By
- Electric Heaters — Gas / Oil Heaters – Gas Fire /Coal Fire – Warm Air System
- Underfloor Heating – Bottled LPG Heating – No Heating At All
Free Central Heating Help For Pensioners – Is There A Catch?
There is no catch.
This scheme will pay all of the cost for a brand new central heating system to be installed for most properties except for small flats where a contribution will be applicable as the grant awarded is usually smaller.
The Grant is non repayable and you will not be asked to repay in the future.
Is The Scheme Available To Exchange Central Heating Boilers?
This scheme aims to help pensioners who live in homes that have never had a gas central heating system installed before.
If you have a boiler fitted you will need to apply for the Age Concern Boiler Grants
What Happens Once I Have Applied For A Free Central Heating Grant?
If you believed to be eligible for the grant, we will forward your application to a government approved installer that has funding to fit the grant and they will then assume full responsibility for surveys and installs.
The procedure for eligible applicants usually is :
- Your eligibility is checked with DWP
- A 30 minute Home Survey Is carried Out
- Your heating is installed

Why A Government Grant For Free Central Heating ?
Free Government Grants For Central Heating are part of the Energy Company Obligation to fund new heating systems for low income homes that are deemed to be in fuel poverty.
These people would not be able to afford the £5000 or so for a full central heating system and would be paying higher energy bills than they can afford. Central heating is the most cheapest way to heat a home and this grant would help many people in the UK.

Can I Get A Grant For Free Central Heating Replacement?
This scheme is for FIRST TIME CENTRAL HEATING only.
If your home has had central heating fitted in the past but it has been removed, or currently not working……… you will not qualify!.
We are getting a lot of applicants for free central heating grants where the home has already got central heating fitted !
People do not bother to read the full criteria for the Central Heating Grant and still apply.
This results in many applications being forwarded straight to the dustbin unfortunately.
Please , if you have a boiler and radiators currently fitted in your home – YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE! and should apply for the Free Boiler Scheme

The Government Have Approved Ideal Or Worcester Boilers For The Scheme As They Have Been Found Be The Most Reliable Boilers.
Can I Get A Grant For New Radiators?
There are no grants currently available to replace old radiators (as part of a central heating system) and you will be responsible for their replacement even if they have been fitted as part of a grant in the past.
Electric Storage heaters however do have grants currently available at the moment which are 100% fully funded.
Why Is Free Central Heating Available For Tenants ?
Yes. Being not eligible for a free boiler does not exclude you from applying for the Central Heating grant if you fulfil the criteria. If the property does not have any central heating fitted, you can apply for a First Time Central Heating Grant.
