You can now apply for a Scottish Boiler Grant under the Eco 4 Boiler Scheme where it will be 100% free for people on benefits.
The Warmer Homes Scheme Scotland is also available for people not on benefits too.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme Scotland
The Scottish government has launched a new scheme to help homeowners upgrade their boilers to renewable energy very cheaply.
Homeowners can apply for 75% cashback up to the value of £7,500 towards the cost of a Heat Pump system and a further 40% cashback up to £6,000 for energy efficiency measures.
Who Funds The Free Boiler Scotland ?
This free boiler grant scheme is funded by the ‘Big Six’ Utility companies.
Eco has been especially set up to help low income households in England, Scotland and Wales, to access funding to install central heating, free insulation, and other heating upgrades.
The money comes from a levy of around £30 which is placed on every household’s electricity bill.
This money is collected by your energy supplier and fed into an ECO fund.
Are There free boilers For Pensioners In Scotland ?
Free Boilers are only available to OAPs that are claiming a qualifying benefit such as Pension Credit.
Being over 60 does not automatically qualify you unfortunately.
Are There free boilers for people Not On A Benefit?
There is a scheme called LA Flex that some UK councils are signed up to which allows people to apply for the Free Boiler without having to be on a benefit. The scheme is very sparse though and your council will have its own criteria. We recommend you make an application and we will try to assist you.

This grant scheme aims to encourage the removal of outdated back boilers and promote the adoption of more energy-efficient heating systems.
What Boilers are Fitted On The Free Boiler Scheme?
Depending on your installer, there are many excellent models being fitted on this scheme.
All boilers that are fitted as part of the Boiler Grant Scheme come with a minimum 2 Year parts & Labour Warranty.
In some cases, you will get a 5 year warranty but you need to confirm this with your installer.
In most cases , for a small fee you can pay to extend your warranty to 5 or even 10 years.
I Have No Boiler Fitted - Can I Apply ?
There Are Still Free Boilers Available Even If You Do Not Have A Boiler Fitted.

The Eco4 Scheme ( also know as The Home Energy Scheme Scotland) has been set up by the Scottish Government To Help Scottish Residents To Keep their homes warmer and reduce their bills.
ECO4 grants in Scotland will be available until 2026.
The scheme has been much improved to include renewable heating too such as Heat Pumps and Solar Panels.

If you are a Scottish resident you could get help to make your home warmer with a new scheme from the Scottish Government.
You could get help worth £10,000 or more to make your home warmer and more energy efficient.

Who Pays For The Free Measures?
ECO4 is a government energy efficiency scheme that is paid for by the “Big Six,” main energy suppliers. The big six are British Gas – Scottish Power – EDF – SSE- E.ON- and NPower.
All these companies have been obligated by the Government to provide funding for heating & insulation measures to improve the energy ratings of all properties throughout the UK.
The latest version of Eco4 scheme focuses on the worst EPC rated homes such as E- F -G and rural homes that are off the gas grid.
Are ECO4 grants in Scotland Free?

Free Insulation Scotland
One of the most effective methods to increase your homes energy efficiency is to ensure you have good insulation for your walls & Loft.
As part of the Eco 4 Scheme , all heating applicants will need to have any insulation that is needed prior to any heating upgrade.
You will NOT be able to get any type of heating grant unless you have your home insulated.
That is the new rule for Eco 4. Ventilation Package is also mandatory too.

Ground Source Heat Pumps Scotland – Any Grants?
The grant for Heat Pumps Will Only Be For £7500 whether it is an air source pump or ground source.
The installation cost of a typical ground source heat pump installation in Scotland is very likely to be a minimum of £25K. Costs Include
- GSHP to buy £10 -£12K
- GSHP borehole cost: £7500 per borehole
- GSHP trenches dig & refill cost: £5000 – £6000
- GSHP plant room pipework & fittings cost: £3000 – £4000
- GSHP installation and commissioning cost: £6000 – £7000
Bringing the total anywhere between £25,000 – £40,000
Can I Get A Free Oil / LPG Central Heating System For Scotland
There are no grants for oil fired or LPG central heating systems at the moment unfortunately.
This is because there are extra costs involved such as a new LPG tank which itself usually costs around £1000.
The oil boiler grant scheme was discontinued back in 2017 and so if you do not have gas in the area, you will not be able to apply.
Can you get a grant for a new roof in Scotland?
Claiming Government funding for a new roof is possible but unfortunately it’s not always given.
The closest you may get to a brand-new roof is enough to repair the existing damage, but that is certainly better than nothing.

The scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Energy Saving Trust.
The scheme has been set up to help tackle fuel poverty and the climate emergency – both key priorities for the Scottish Government .
