What Are Free Heating Schemes ?
Free Heating Schemes for the UK have been introduced by the Government to help people reduce their energy bills and upgrade old heating and insulate homes properly.
You Will Get Free Heating Upgrades and not Free Heating as such. There is no such thing as heating your home for free but you can get massive help to reduce your bills.
Most schemes are 100% free to benefit claimants except for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme which needs a contribution.
Who Is Eligible For The Free Heating Scheme ?
To be eligible for 1 or more of the Heating & Insulation grants on this page, you must meet the criteria below.
1- Your Home EPC Is E – F – G
2 – You Are A Home Owner / Tenant In Receipt Of A Qualifying Benefit
3- You Have Old Heating / Low Insulation Levels.

Your Loft & Walls Will Be Insulated If Needed. In Some Cases ( OFF Gas Homes ONLY ) External Wall Insulation Will Be Fitted Too.

To Combat Any Future Mould Problems Your Home Ventilation Will Be Upgraded. Included Are Trickle Vents For Windows, Extractor Fans For Your Kitchen & Bathroom & Under door cuts.

I Carlo Lega Director Of Warm Front UK has 11 years experience in Free Heating & Insulation Grants and am based in Tettenhall Wolverhampton.
I have been responsible for over 10 thousand free boiler replacements since the scheme started in 2013.
I check all boiler applications personally and if I believe you are eligible I forward your details to one of our Government Approved Installers.

What Is The Warm Front Scheme / Free Heating Scheme?
The Warm Front / Free Heating Scheme Is part of ECO 4 fourth stage of the government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.
The main goal of this fantastic free grant is to support low-income & vulnerable households to upgrade their home heating systems and insulation levels.
This scheme will also to help the UK to reach its net zero goal by 2050.
If you are claiming a qualifying benefit , you should make an application for 1 or more of the grants available on this site.
Who is entitled to free home insulation?
You will only get free insulation now if having a heating measure on the grant.
The government want everyone to improve the whole of their home with heating & insulation and so are giving extra payments to installers that improve the home Epc to the maximum.
who pays for The Free Heating Scheme
All the Energy measures on this website such are funded by all the large energy companies that are signed up to the ECO4 scheme.
In reality it is the fuel bill payer that is really paying for Eco Grants via a small levy that is placed on every fuel bill.

Are There grants for people Not On A Benefit?
There is a scheme called LA Flex that some UK councils are signed up to which allows people to apply for a grant without having to be on a benefit. The scheme is very sparse though and your council will have its own criteria. We recommend you make an application and we will try to assist you.
Are There Free heating Grants For Disabled?
All Disability Benefits and other ones too have been removed from qualifying unfortunately.

Are There Any Grants For Landlords?
As a landlord, you may be eligible for an Warm Front grant if your tenants are in receipt of qualifying benefits.
They must be deemed to be on a low income, suffer from a health condition impacted by living in a cold home or are experiencing fuel poverty.
Your property will also need to be E Rated.
Are There Any Grants For Park Homes?
NO – We have been waiting for a couple of years for Park Homes to be included in the Free Eco Grants Scheme to no avail.
It seems the Government have no interest in helping people who reside in Park Homes.
I cannot see there being any in the future too probably because of their size and minimal carbon saved by insulating these homes.

Can you get solar panels on scheme?
Under the ECO4 scheme, you may be eligible for free Solar Panel installation which can help you generate your own electricity and save you up to 70% on your energy bills.
Homeowners must meet income and property requirements to receive a 100 % grant for free solar panels. In some cases a free heat pump installation is available too.
Only properties that are Off Gas and have an EPC of F or G will qualify. These properties represent the worst efficient homes which are prioritised for grant funding.
Free Solar Panels - Who Is Eligible
Homeowners must meet the usual income and property requirements to receive free solar panels on the ECO4 scheme.
Both solar panel grants and heat pump installations grants are available to the worst efficient homes in the UK particularly rural areas off the gas grid.
Oil heated homes and electric homes stand the best chance of being successful for Free Solar Panels.
- On a low-income, vulnerable and a fuel poor household.
- Property owner or landlord.
- An inefficient heating system that has a E-G energy efficiency rating.
- Off Gas Home that runs entirely off electricity / Oil / LPG

Are There Free Doors And Windows?
ECO4 was originally supposed to cover 100% of the cost of double glazing as well as new doors and was initially proposed at the start of the scheme.
This has now been discontinued and there is nothing available now in this area.

Are There Grants For Landlords?

Insulating homes
The scheme takes a fabric-first approach, which means it focuses on improving the building itself before installing new heating systems.
In fact, any home with an efficiency rating of ‘E’ or below will have to install loft, roof, and exterior-facing cavity wall insulation before improving any existing heating systems.
Can I get a grant for a new roof in Wales?
Grants for a new roof are usually given providing your home falls into the category of being below living standards and the occupants of a property being at serious risk. You can apply for the Home Repair Assistance Grant but it is discretionary, so there’s a chance you could apply and be turned down.
ECO4 Insulation Measures - Stop Heat Escaping.
A typical home without insulation can lose 33% of its heat through its walls and 25% through the roof?
Insulating your home properly can improve keeping the heat in and reduce heat loss.
Adding insulation to your loft, walls and floor will help you keep your home warm, wasting less energy and lowering your home’s carbon emissions

Well-insulated homes are much better for your health too.
There is no question that living in a cold home can cause health issues, and heighten pre-existing ones.
Insulating your home to the latest guidance also means that you can prevent damp, which can cause mould and mildew.
Can I get free insulation in Wales?
Nest For Landlords Requirements
A private landlord must be registered with Rent Smart Wales and be able to provide their registration number
- Private landlord can refer a maximum of three properties to the Nest scheme
- gas safety Certificates must be valid
- Private tenants must have resided in the property for a minimum of six months prior to a Nest application
- Private tenants must have a valid tenancy agreement with six months left to run,
- Private tenants will need to show proof of residency/address to the assessor to demonstrate they have been in the property for six months prior to application (e.g. utility bill or council tax bill) and a valid tenancy agreement
Free Insulation Scotland
One of the most effective methods to increase your homes energy efficiency is to ensure you have good insulation for your walls & Loft.
As part of the Eco 4 Scheme , all heating applicants will need to have any insulation that is needed prior to any heating upgrade.
You will NOT be able to get any type of heating grant unless you have your home insulated.
That is the new rule for Eco 4. Ventilation Package is also mandatory too.
Ground Source Heat Pumps Scotland – Any Grants?
The grant for Heat Pumps Will Only Be For £7500 whether it is an air source pump or ground source.
The installation cost of a typical ground source heat pump installation in Scotland is very likely to be a minimum of £25K. Costs Include
- GSHP to buy £10 -£12K
- GSHP borehole cost: £7500 per borehole
- GSHP trenches dig & refill cost: £5000 – £6000
- GSHP plant room pipework & fittings cost: £3000 – £4000
- GSHP installation and commissioning cost: £6000 – £7000
Bringing the total anywhere between £25,000 – £40,000
Can I Get A Free Oil / LPG Central Heating System For Scotland
There are no grants for oil fired or LPG central heating systems at the moment unfortunately.
This is because there are extra costs involved such as a new LPG tank which itself usually costs around £1000.
The oil boiler grant scheme was discontinued back in 2017 and so if you do not have gas in the area, you will not be able to apply.
