Green Homes Grants To Beat Fuel Poverty

What is Fuel Poverty?

Warm Front Grants
Although fuel poverty is basically being unable to afford to keep your home adequately heated, it’s actually directly related to the household income.
The Official definition of actual fuel poverty  is a household that spends more than 10% of its total income on  heating, hot water, lighting and the use of appliances.
The government estimates that there are approximately over  3 million households in England in fuel poverty.
This equates to 15 % of UK households.

What Causes fuel poverty in the UK ?

Central Heating Grants
The main culprits for causing Fuel Poverty  are low wages and high energy costs.

Ever increasing energy costs, Stagnant wages, and more people living on DWP benefits  are the main causes of increasing  fuel poverty year on year.

Fuel poverty mainly affects
  • Unemployed people
  • Those on low incomes,
  • Those living in energy inefficient properties.

What Have The Government Done To Help Fuel Poverty?

The government has introduced energy prices caps  which have helped to reduce energy costs.

They have also introduced The National Living Wage which has helped to increase the income of low-income families.

They have also introduced The  Fuel Poverty Energy Efficiency Rating system which measures the energy efficiency of a property.

All properties are given a ranking  from A to G, with A being the most efficient and G being the lowest.

The Governments aim is to achieve a minimum  EPC rating Of  C for all UK households by 2025
