What Is The Criteria For A Bus Pass In 2025?
To qualify for an over-60s bus pass in the UK , you need to meet the following criteria:
- Age Requirement: You must have reached the State Pension age, which is currently 67 for both men and women.
- Residency: You must live in the UK and pay council tax to your local council.
- Travel Times: The pass allows free travel during off-peak hours, which are between 9:30 AM and 11 PM on weekdays, and all day on weekends and public holidays.
In England, you can get a free bus pass when you reach State Pension age, which is currently 66.
However, if you live in London, you can travel free on buses, tubes, and other transport when you’re 60, but only within London.
In Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, you can get a free bus pass at 60.

Unfortunately turning 60 no longer automatically entitles you to a Free Bus Pass in the UK.

There is a petition currently live which is requesting that the Government opens up the Free Bus Pass Scheme to all people over 60 and not just those who have reached Pension Age.

You can get a Senior Railcard if you’re aged 60 or over!
It allows you to save 1/3 on most rail fares across Great Britain.
