This company was extremely easy to deal with. The staff I had dealings with were very helpful, especially Carlo. When there was a slight hiccup with the first installation company assigned to us, Carlo got on the case immediately and reassigned another company. The company they used were extremely professional. Overall I am very pleased with the whole process.

Another heating company in let me down and said they could not proceed with my heating conversion at the kast minute due to the fact i had a coal fired back boiler. I spoke to a few firms nobody would do it.i phoned Warm Front and spoke to Carlo, we can do that mate! 1 month later i have a new combi boiler , hot water on demand and a warm house for the first time in 13 years. I am over the moon and can't thank Carlo and his lads enough. They are true professionals who know exactly what theyre doing , very tidy and will be done before you know it. Great service from Carlo who was there from start to finish helping my mother save at least £4000 on a full central heating system Carlo helped us get a very good company that was brilliant and installed the system within the week of coming to survey the job and only taking one day to install Would definitely recommend this service as when I was phoning up companies myself they either wasn’t turning up or telling us we wasn’t eligible or turning up and then hearing nothing from them again Once again 5 stars for this company

Why Are There Warm Air Heating Grants?

All grants available will help the UK to go carbon neutral by 2050,    More ECO 4 Grants Are Here.

Please take a look as you could be eligible for other heating grants too.

What Is a warm air heating System ?

During the 1960’s and 70’s warm air systems were commonly installed in homes due to their reliability and ease of installation.

Johnson & Starley were the most popular units that were fitted and many are still in service today.

There was no need for pipes and radiators to be installed within the home as the heat is distributed via ducting.

Mainly found in smaller homes  who found this heating  very cost effective and warm air heating is still present in about 6% of all UK homes.

How Do Warm Air Heating Systems Work?

Warm air heating systems use a vent to extract air from outside which is then heated over a gas flame.

This heated  warm air is then circulated via different ducts throughout your home.

Most warm air systems are gas fired, but you do get electric ones too which are much more expensive to run.

Are old warm / hot air heating systems any good?

Warm Air was a very popular form of heating for domestic properties in the 1960s & 1970s  as they were more reliable compared to other central heating systems of that time.

However, 1970s warm air systems do not provide the same level of efficiency and controllability for todays home heating and we recommend you you either replace it or upgrade to a better heating system such as gas CH.

removing warm air heating system cost

If you just want to remove a warm air system without replacing it with any new heating system, you will pay up to £1000 in labour and probably some rubbish removal costs such as a skip.

It should take a tradesman up to a day to remove completely .
If you have it decommisiioned bt a gas safe engineer, you should be able to remove it yourself

warm air heating boiler scrappage Scheme

There is no longer a boiler scrappage scheme for Warm Air Units.
The grant on this page is the next best thing but you will need to be claiming a benefit.

Is warm air heating expensive to run

The running cost of your Johnson & Starley warm air heating system depends on what fuel it uses and how energy efficient your home is.

Gas fired warm air  is the more cheaper option compared to electric.

Old warm air heating systems will be around 30% more costly to run and are now considered outdated.

Buying A House With Warm Air Heating?

If you are currently buying a house with an old warm Air heating system installed we recommend Rip it out and put an  air source heat pump in or convert to central heating.

Both options will be much cheaper to run. The  heat pump won’t involve having mains gas connected to the property, and gives you aircon in the summer too.

We recommend you first try to get a grant to convert to free central heating.

Types Of Warm Air Heating Systems

There are several different types of warm air heating systems in the UK

Gas-Fired Warm Air Heating Systems

Gas-fired warm air heating systems are among the most common types of warm air heating systems in the UK.

These systems use natural mains gas or propane as fuel to heat the air. Warmed air is then distributed throughout the building using ducts and vents.

Oil-fired warm air heating systems

Oil-fired systems are less common than gas-fired systems and are found only in off gas areas.

Oil-fired systems burn heating oil to heat the air.

Warmed air is then distributed throughout the building using ducts and vents.

Electric warm air heating systems

Electric systems are the most expensive of all heat types and are more common in off gas area due to this.

These systems use electric heating elements to heat the air, which is then distributed throughout the building using ducts and vents.

Heat pump warm air heating systems

Heat pump systems work on renewable energy and are the most energy-efficient of all the warm air heating options.

Heat pump systems work by extracting heat from the outside air and using it to warm the air inside the building via large radiators. ducts and vents.

Hybrid warm air heating systems

Hybrid systems combine a heat pump with a gas or oil boiler, allowing the system to switch between the two depending on the outside temperature and the heating needs of the building.

Johnson & Starley Warm Air Heating

Johnson Starley Warm Air Heating

Johnson and Starley are the market leaders in warm air heating and have been providers of comfort since 1922 They began in Blackpool nearly a hundred years ago when two businessmen Mr Johnson and Mr Starley  opened a small but ambitious garage business.

Johnson & Starley was soon producing warm air heating systems utilising waste oil from their garage.

Benefits of Warm Air Heating

A modern air system provides fast warm up times and will heat your home quickly.

The setup eliminates the need for radiators giving you more freedom in terms of room layout.

Warm air systems are renowned for their quiet operation so your home won’t be disturbed by unwelcome noises.

These systems are very energy efficient with running costs as much as 18% lower than some other types of heating system.

Some modern systems have electronic controls to deliver a stable temperature and give you even greater control of your energy use.

Warm air systems can include the option of electronic filtration which regularly removes 95% of all airborne particles such as pollen, human and pet hair and bacteria.

Cons Of A Warm Air System

You will need an alternative source of heating for your water which is another expense and thing to go wrong.

A  gas boiler or immersion heater is the usual scenario.

Retrofitting ducts or vents into a house can be difficult and will mean having visible ducts in throughout and drafts to circulate..

As there are relatively few manufacturers and installers the market for warm air systems is not as competitive as that of gas boilers so prices are high and options are limited

A warm air system will move air and therefore dust throughout your home which can be a problem for people who suffer with allergies

Is there Asbestos in Warm Air Heating?

An old warm air heating system usually  contains asbestos insulation.

Asbestos cement sheets should not be broken up and need to be sealed in heavy-duty polythene sheets or bags that are double wrapped.

We recommend that you use a specialist asbestos company for its removal.

What Is Forced-Air Heating?

What Is Forced-Air Heating?

Forced-air heating is a central heating system that distributes heated air throughout your home using a blower via ducts and vents. It is very similar to a warm air heating system.

The two most popular heating systems that use forced-air distribution are furnaces and heat pumps. Furnaces heat air by burning fuel—natural gas, propane, oil, electricity.

Heat pumps transfer heat from outside into the home.

Is forced air gas or electric.?

Forced-air can be gas or electric, depending on which fuel the heat source requires.

How Does Forced Air Heating work?

Forced-air heating works by heating cooler air or collecting warm air from outdoors and distributing it throughout the home via ducts and air vents.

Types Of Forced Air Systems

✅Electric-Powered Systems

✅Gas-Powered System

✅Oil-Powered Systems

✅Heat Pumps.
