This company was extremely easy to deal with. The staff I had dealings with were very helpful, especially Carlo. When there was a slight hiccup with the first installation company assigned to us, Carlo got on the case immediately and reassigned another company. The company they used were extremely professional. Overall I am very pleased with the whole process.

Free Heating Scheme Wales

The Warm Homes Nest Scheme in Wales is a Welsh government-supported initiative that has been put in place to help reduce household carbon emissions and provide more energy efficiency measures to all Welsh homes.  The Eco 4 Scheme also covers Wales as well as the rest of the UK.

It Is Aimed Mainly at Homes That Are Claiming a Benefit.

The Nest Grant Scheme provides FREE home insulation, PLUS  upgraded boilers & renewable heating systems such as solar and heat pumps.

Welsh Government’s Warm Homes Nest scheme is very similar to the Eco 4 Scheme but is only open to Welsh residents.

This scheme also helps households in fuel poverty by reducing energy bills through free energy efficiency improvements in the home.

Customers contacting Nest for advice and support are assessed for their eligibility to receive a package of free home energy efficiency improvements.

who pays for The Scheme

All the Energy efficiency improvement measures on this website such are funded by all the large energy companies that are signed up to the ECO4 scheme.

In reality it is the fuel bill payer that is really paying for Eco Grants via a small levy that is placed on every fuel bill.

How long will The Scheme last?

Free grant measures are set  to be delivered from the 1 April 2022  until 31 March 2026.

ECO4 focusses on improving the least energy efficient homes and households in fuel poverty, as only properties in bands E-G can be treated.

Do you have to pay back any grant?

This is grant funding meaning you won’t have to pay it back if you’re eligible.

It is difficult to get a grant now but we recommend you put in an application.

Are There Grants For Landlords?

As a landlord, you may be eligible for an ECO4 grant if your tenants are in receipt of qualifying benefits.

They must be deemed to be on a low income, suffer from a health condition impacted by living in a cold home or are experiencing fuel poverty.

Your property will also need to be E Rated.

Insulating homes

The scheme takes a fabric-first approach, which means it focuses on improving the building itself before installing new heating systems.

In fact, any home with an efficiency rating of ‘E’ or below will have to install loft, roof, and exterior-facing cavity wall insulation before improving any existing heating systems.

ECO4 Insulation Measures - Stop Heat Escaping.

A typical home without insulation can lose 33% of its heat through its walls and 25% through the roof?

Insulating your home properly can improve keeping the heat in and reduce heat loss.

Adding insulation to your loft, walls and floor will help you keep your home warm, wasting less energy and lowering your home’s carbon emissions

The Benefits Of Insulation

Well-insulated homes are much better for your health too.

There is no question that living in a cold home can cause health issues, and heighten pre-existing ones.

Insulating your home to the latest guidance also means that you can prevent damp, which can cause mould and mildew.

Is Nest Wales means-tested?

Yes- You need to be claiming a qualifying benefit to be able to get a grant. See above

What Is The Nest Scheme Eligibility?

The ECO4 Scheme eligibility for any property is dependent on the EPC rating.

Only  properties with an EPC grade of  E, F or G are accepted on the scheme.

This is because the Government only wish to upgrade the worst efficient homes.

Can I get a grant for a new roof in Wales?

Grants for a new roof are usually given providing your home falls into the category of being below living standards and the occupants of a property being at serious risk. You can apply for the Home Repair Assistance Grant but it is discretionary, so there’s a chance you could apply and be turned down.

Can I get free insulation in Wales?

Yes but you will have to have your heating upgraded too.

Free insulation grants as a single measure have now ended in favour of a whole house approach.

Are privately rented properties eligible for energy efficiency improvements

Householders who own or privately rent their property are eligible for Nest energy efficiency home improvements.

For tenanted homes, signed landlord permission will need to be received prior to any work going ahead.
