Can I Get Free Storage Heaters ?
You will no longer have old heaters replaced.
The new grant for storage heaters is focusing on moving away from replacing storage heaters on a like for like basis.
The new grant has recently been modified to include upgrades to Renewable heating such as Air Source Heat Pumps and Free Solar.
Potentially you can upgrade electric heaters to :
- FREE CENTRAL HEATING
- FREE AIR SOURCE HEATPUMP
- FREE SOLAR PANELS
All the above measures will be subject to your house type and amount of bedrooms etc, which will depend on the survey outcome.
We recommend you apply for the grant and have a free survey to determine what you can have fitted to your home.

Yes. Pensioners who receive Pension Credit can apply for this grant
How does the Grant To Replace Storage Heaters Work?
If you feel you satisfy the Storage Heaters Scheme qualifying criteria, you should fill in the form below.

Is The Storage Heater Grant Scheme For all The UK ?
Electric storage heater grants are available for all eligible households in the UK as part of the ECO (Energy Companies Obligation) Scheme.

No Landlords cannot apply for Free Storage Heater Replacement anymore.

If you are renting and need to replace your HEATERS but cannot afford to, you should ask your landlord to fund new ones.
Are Free Storage heaters available to everyone on benefits?
Council owned or a Housing Association properties do not qualify for Eco Funding unfortunately.
To qualify for a free storage heater grant you must be living in a private property or a private rented property
Should I get rid of my storage heaters
You should get rid of your storage heaters for several reasons. Here are some of the TOP REASONS why replacing electric storage heaters will benefit your home.
Difficult to control temperature
The main purpose of home heating is to provide heat when you need it the most.
However, the way storage heaters work makes this simple task difficult. Storage heater bricks hold heat overnight using night time electricity and release it during the day. In some instances this can mean that the house is too hot in the morning and too cold at night.
Awkward manual controls
With smart controls taking over our homes, anything manual now seems like a chore! Old storage heaters are another job you don’t want to think about. Considering they do not feature thermostats, they are unable to automatically adjust the room temperature to maintain an ambient level. The manual set up also means that you have to check the weather for the next day and prepare the storage heater every day!
Asbestos safety hazard
Another major disadvantage of storage heaters is the Asbestos safety hazard. Storage heaters from the 70s, which used Asbestos to prevent fires, usually cause this concern. However, nowadays it is illegal to use as insulation because of its link to health and respiratory issues.
If you think that your storage heater has been in the property since the 70s, contact a certified professional to conduct asbestos testing before hiring an electrician to disconnect the system. If the results are positive for asbestos, get in touch with your local council for information on how to properly dispose of the heater.
