Is The Central Heating Grant Really Free?

Yes for most applicants that meet the criteria. Please see the next headline.

This government Eco 3 scheme is funded by the ‘Big Six’ Utility companies.

SEE THE OFGEM SITE FOR DETAILS

Eco 3 has been especially set up to help low income households in England, Scotland and Wales, to access funding to install central heating, free insulation, and other heating upgrades.

The money comes from a levy of around £30 which is placed on every household’s electricity bill.

This money is collected by your energy supplier and fed into an ECO fund.

How is the amount of a free central heating grant calculated?

The amount of your Free Gas Central Heating grant can only be calculated after a full survey of your home has been carried out.

This is because every property is awarded a different grant for each property type and what is b presently being used as its main heating type. For example -electric room heaters as the property main source of heating would achieve a much larger grant than a gas fire being the main heating.

It is all about how much carbon is saved after the central heating is fitted with the grant being awarded accordingly.

Being a Government scheme, the calculation is very complicated

However, the survey is free whether you qualify or not.

Do You Have To Pay For Central Heating If You Have A Grant?

Warm Front Grants
Warm Front Grants

If your grant awarded is high enough, you will receive free gas central heating,

If not you will be asked to contribute towards the cost. This is usually up to a £1000

If you choose not to contribute, you can withdraw your application and it will not cost you anything. However you should still consider paying towards it as this will probably be your last time to get a new heating installed at a massive discount.

How much does it cost to have Central Heating installed?

For a basic system, customers should expect to pay from £3000 -£5500 which will include up to 7 radiators and fitting as well as the required controls.

PLEASE SEE THIS CENTRAL HEATING WEBSITE

Typical Central Heating Installation Costs

The total costs for installing a new central heating system will usually depend on the size of your home.

– A large, four bedroom house will require more radiators and pipework for example than a small two bed flat – but generally, we estimate that the full central heating installation costs will come to around £3,000 to £5,500 for an average three bedroom home.

We’ve broken down some of the individual costs of each size home below.

How Much Is A New Boiler ?

Boiler Scrappage Schemee
Boiler Scrappage Schemee

Installing a traditional heating boiler connected to a cylinder will usually cost around £1,700 to £1,900 for the boiler and the install, and slightly more for a combi boiler – up to £2,000.

For a full breakdown of boiler installation costs, take a look at our dedicated boiler installation costs guide

The overall cost of the boiler may come down if included as part of a full central heating refit.

You may be entitled to a grant towards a boiler. This is where the government subsidises the cost and give up 70% of cost towards it. They used to be free but now every one needs to contribute.

See Our Boiler Grant Page Here

Radiator Installation Costs

Eco 3 Grants
Eco 3 Grants

The total price of radiators can vary depending on the style you buy, with typical prices ranging from around £50 to £150 each. Screwfix and Toolsattion do some very good deals on replacement radiators and we always recommend you purchase from there to keep costs down.

If you were replacing a single radiator individually you would also need to calculate in a larger cost for the installation, which would also include bleeding the system.

– Heating engineers will typically charge around £300 a day for a two-man team, but when doing a full system installation, the job will usually be priced as a single cost rather than worked out on a day rate or by the hour.

When doing an entire installation, with several new radiators, it can bring the price down – we would expect the price for new radiators for a three bedroom home to be around £1,000 to £1,200.

Can I Get A Grant For Full Central Heating Replacement?

No. We are getting a lot of applicants for free central heating grants where the home has already got central heating fitted !

This scheme is for FIRST TIME CENTRAL HEATING only but people do not read the full criteria for the Central Heating Grant and still apply.

This results in many applications being forwarded straight to the dustbin unfortunately.

Please , if you have a boiler and radiators currently fitted in your home – YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE!

Homes with a boiler already fitted should apply for the BOILER GRANT SCHEME HERE.

A contribution is required.

Can I get a Grant For A Full Central Heating System?

First Time Central Heating Grants are available towards the cost of a Replacement Boiler or A brand new full Central Heating system.

Central heating grants are part of a Government-backed scheme called the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO3) which was set up in 2018 to reduce carbon and help alleviate fuel poverty.

Depending on the property type of the applicant, the grant usually covers the full cost of the work except in the case of small flats and mid terraced houses, where a contribution of up to £1000 will be needed.

Full central heating grants are non-repayable and they will not have to be paid back in the future.

Can I Get A Free LPG Central Heating System

There are grants for first time LPG central heating available in the UK but they will not be fully funded with every one needing to pay a contribution.

This is because there are extra costs involved such as a new LPG tank which itself usually costs around £1000.

We are currently taking properties for LPG central heating .

Please apply on one of the forms on this page.

Yes. There are grants available to replace old boilers but……….boilers are not fully funded and you will need to pay a contribution.

Also There are not many companies operating the boiler grant scheme due to funding restrictions and many areas have now stopped installing grant boilers.
